YOUTH SERVICES

COMMUNITY YOUTH CENTER

302 S. 4th Street

Yakima, WA 98901

The Union Gospel Mission Youth Center, located in the former Madison School building can give you a chance to live out your dream of being a missionary or minister for the Lord. Children come to the Youth Center after school, on weekends, for special events, for dinner, and whenever they find that the doors are open to them. There is usually something interesting going on. The basketball court, well-kept fenced play area, and reconstructed playground are important assets to that area of town.

Volunteer opportunities:
  • CHALLENGE (educational program): offers opportunities to help the children with their school work and workbooks, reading to them and listening to them read, managing the computer room, helping with the maintenance of the computers, etc.

  • WORSHIP: Wednesdays the kids are taken to Youth group at a local church and on Friday they have a special worship time with music, drama, etc., by visiting groups at the Youth Center

  • CRAFTS AND GAMES: On Fridays we like to have games and crafts in the evening.

  • BIBLE STUDY: On Tuesday and Thursday evenings the children are divided into groups for Bible study appropriate to their age groups.

  • MEALS: Each evening various churches and individuals provide meals. We serve supper to about 45 children each evening at 6 PM.

  • KITCHEN: Snacks are available for the children from 3 PM to 4:30 PM. Supervisors are needed to prepare the snacks, monitor the kitchen, and clean up after snack time.
  • GAME ROOM: Tuesday through Friday the Game Room is open to the children, and supervisors are needed.
  • PERSONAL CARE: We have facilities for barbering and beauty care. Training in personal care and hygiene is also needed.
  • STORE: Children 'spend' points earned for various achievements. It would be good to have the store open twice a month.
  • JANITOR: The Youth Center needs constant and consistent care.
  • REPAIR AND REDECORATING: The renovation of the 'old' school into our new youth facility is an ongoing process. Many projects are available.
  • GROUNDS KEEPING: The lawn and grounds of the youth center need constant maintenance.
  • SUMMER CAMP: Counselors, cooks, sponsors, etc., are needed for children and youth.
