Our Commitment to You

Funding: The Yakima Union Gospel Mission funding comes from the private sector. Individuals, businesses, churches, service organizations, private institutions and foundations provide the vast majority of our funding.

Your Privacy : We will never sell, rent, or divulge any of your personal information to another organization or individual, except as required by law. Privacy Policy

Friends of the Friendless, A Monthly Support Commitment Program

There is no way that our work among the hungry, homeless and hurting could be done without the help of generous supporters. We simply couldn’t handle their needs by ourselves – especially when we see those needs increasing. Because you’ve shown such a real concern for needy people who are struggling to survive here in the Yakima area, we want to make a very special request of you today. Won’t you please consider becoming one of our Friends of the Friendless.

Our program is for those who commit to monthly support. At the end of each month we will mail you a reminder letter with a response form and envelope. You will also receive a copy of our monthly newsletter describing what God is doing through these ministries. The number of mailings you receive will be reduced considerably, saving time and expense for all of us.

To sign up for this program with automatic withdrawals, please mark "Yes" right below your checking or credit card information on the Give Now page. To sign up to send a check regularly, please contact us.

Charitable Bequests leave a Lasting Legacy

Stocks
Will or Living Trust
Retirement Plan
Life Insurance
Charitable Gift Annuities

You may prefer to leave your assets and cash flow alone until your death, making your gift through your estate instead. A bequest or estate gift is among the simplest and most effective giving tools you can use to insure that the work you have supported during your life will continue for years to come! Estate gifts are critically important to the Mission's long-term financial strength. They help ensure our ability to meet the opportunities and challenges of the future.

Stocks

Giving securities (individual stocks, bonds, and/or mutual funds) and certain other types of property that have increased in value can bring extra tax savings. Such gifts provide multiple tax benefits. They are generally deductible from income tax at full fair market value, if owned for longer than one year. Giving in this way also enables you to bypass capital gains tax that would otherwise be due if the donated assets were sold. Gifts of such assets are deductible in amounts up to 30% of AGi

A gift through your Will or Living Trust

After providing for loved ones, you can direct that a specific amount, a certain property, all or a percentage of what remains, be devoted to charitable organizations you have chosen. There is no limit to the amount of charitable gifts that are deductible from gifts and estate tax purposes.

Gifts of Retirement Plan Assets

Federal tax law changes and proposals are designed to make charitable gifts from retirement plans even more attractive and simple. Under the right circumstances, gifts of these assets can be made to charity on a tax-free basis during and/or following your lifetime.

Gifts of Life Insurance

You may own life insurance policies that have built up cash value but are no longer needed for the purpose for which they were intended. Such policies can make excellent charitable gifts. In addition to providing income tax savings today, gifts of all or a portion of the value of life insurance can also result in the significant estate tax savings.

Charitable Gift Annuities

What is a charitable gift annuity? One of the most common and popular ways to make a planned gift is through a Charitable Gift Annuity. Basically, a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) is a simple contract between you and a nonprofit organization, such as Union Gospel Mission of Yakima (YUGM). In exchange for an irrevocable (non-refundable) gift, YUGM agrees to pay one or two annuitants (beneficiaries of an annuity) a fixed dollar amount each year for life. The annuity amount is determined based on life expectancy of the annuitant(s): the older you are at the time of the gift, the greater the amount can be. The general resources of the Mission guarantee the payments.

Corporate Partnerships

Yakima’s Union Gospel Mission is proud of its partnerships with local businesses that have a desire to help hurting people in our community. Businesses can help in a variety of ways, from supplying food, volunteering, to donating financially. The opportunities are endless and unique to each particular company and how they want to get involved.

If you want to learn more about how your company can make a difference in our community, call 509-248-4510.

Matching Gifts

Find out if your company will match your initial gift and/or all gifts you give to the Union Gospel Mission. Please check with your company's Human Resources Department to inquire about its matching gifts policy. If you have any other questions pertaining to matching gifts and the Mission, please contact us or call the administrative office at 509-248-4510.

Offload Merchandise

Every month the Mission receives calls from corporations looking to off-load merchandise that is undeliverable to their regular customers. If you would like to see if the Mission could use your items, please contact us at 509-248-4510 for more information.

Hope Totes / Stuff a Hat

Often times when men, women and families come to the Mission they come empty handed - even without a toothbrush or deodorant. A hope tote is a bag of necessary personal hygiene items. If you are interested, you can put together hope totes as a group, or make a donation designated specifically to purchasing items for hope totes. During the holidays we also prepare winter hats stuffed with personal items and try to include warm socks and gloves.

A typical hope tote contains:

Toothpaste
Toothbrush
Soap
Shampoo
Conditioner
deodorant
female products (where applicable)
disposable razors
lotion
chapstick (if available)
neosporin (if available)
Comb/brush
fingernail clippers

Special Projects

Thanks-give-away Food Drive: We give away more than 500 complete Thanksgiving dinners to needy families each year. We are always looking for sponsors and donations to fill these food boxes.

Madison House Annual Christmas Party: Over 1,500 gifts are given away to youth in our community each year at the Madison House Annual Christmas party. The success of this event is a team effort which requires preparation work all year long. We need age appropriate gifts for boys and girls from birth to 18 years, individually wrapped candy and refreshments, volunteers to wrap gifts, help set up, pass out the gifts, and clean up afterwards. This all day event includes a Christmas play, family photo, refreshments, and gifts. The children love it!

Summer Camp Sponsorships:Each year Madison House Community Youth Center holds two week long overnight camps at the Lost Creek Village Campground, one camp for 3rd to 6th graders and the second for 7th to 12 graders. This camp provides a unique opportunity to experience the great outdoors for children that may otherwise not get the chance to leave their community. If you are interested in sponsoring a camper, please contact us, or call our office staff at 509-248-4510.
