Men's Outreach Shelter client, Robert Connor says, "Alcohol just about got me, but the Mission is really helping me get my life back."
In 1936, the Mission’s first small outreach welcomed hungry people through its doors at 13 South Front Street. For more than 60 years, the Mission helped thousands of men, women, and children each year until, at last, the needs were too great and the facilities too small. In 1996, the Mission moved to its current location, a former motel, at 1300 North First Street.

As a part of the main Mission complex, the men’s shelter houses, feeds, and clothes up to 60 men each night. Other services offered to men include:

  • Medical & dental care on a limited basis for men who do not have medical insurance or qualify for assistance from the state.

  • Day labor and job referrals.

  • Free storage for personal belongings.

  • Self-service laundry facilities.

  • Outdoor grassy recreation area and indoor day rooms.

  • Special help and counseling for Hispanic men.
