What is a Yakima Union Gospel Mission Volunteer?

Volunteer – A person who chooses freely to do something with no promise of compensation.

Yes we are always encouraging people in our community to get involved—and in response to the observation that volunteers are too often seen as amateurs: “Just remember: Noah’s Ark was built by amateurs. The Titanic was built by professionals.” This is the time to jump in and get involved. Whatever your gifts, talents or abilities are…they can be used.

There are many volunteer opportunities at the Yakima Union Gospel Mission, please look through this list to see where you would most want to volunteer. If you are interested in a particular area and it is not listed below, feel free to contact us as our needs change daily.

Please complete our Volunteer Application form if you are interested in helping with any of the volunteer needs listed below. Completed volunteer applications can be dropped at the Main office of the Yakima Union Gospel Mission, and our volunteer coordinators will get in contact with you.

Value of a Volunteer

"Something critical is missing in places that care for the broken and needy if the only people there are also broken and needy.

Without the presence of people in the rescue missions whose lives are not defined by addiction, alcoholism, crime, and mental illness, there is little positive influence. Chaplains and pastors can only spread themselves so far."

- excerpt from Under the Overpass by Mike Yankoski
